PEOPLE SEARCH TIPS

You may search the directory by entering the name of a person or department, a UCInetID, or a phone number and clicking the search button. The search has the following two modes:

• Exact Match - This mode will search for whole words within a name. Thus, 'Peter' will match 'Peter Anteater' or 'Peter Parker' but not 'John Peterson'. Each word is matched independently and all must match something. So, 'Peter Antereater' will match 'Peter The Anteater' or 'Anteater Peter' but not 'Peter Parker' (since Anteater matches nothing).
• Starts With - This mode is similar to Exact Match except a wildcard is added to the end of each word entered. Thus 'Peter A' will match 'Peter Anteater', 'Peter Alheim' or even 'Albert Peterson' but not 'Peter Parker'. Similar to Exact Match the order of words is not important so 'Peter A' will match 'Anteater Peter' as well.

DEPARTMENT SEARCH

You may search for departments by entering in the department name in a similar fashion to the people search.

PHONE NUMBER SEARCH

You may search phone numbers by entering either 4, 5, 7 or 10 digits of the phone number you are searching for. Please be aware of the following guidelines when searching for a user's number:

• The numbers you enter will be automatically reformatted to match the number in the directory. You may enter hyphens, spaces and parenthesis in your search but these will be discarded when reformatting occurs. Other characters will cause the search to perform a name search instead of a number.
• Student numbers are only searchable by providing 7 or 10 digits.
• Search Method is ignored when searching by number
• You cannot search by number and any other field simultaneously.

FILTER BOXES

You may restrict your search to only Faculty, Staff, Students or Departments by checking and unchecking the appropriate boxes. A checked group is included in the search and an unchecked group is removed. Unchecking all boxes is treated as if all boxes were checked.

ADVANCED SEARCH

For more detailed search capabilities you may use the advanced search. The advanced search allows you to specify search parameters for the following six fields:

• First Name/Nickname
• Last Name
• E-mail
• UCInetID
• Department
• Phone

You can search each field in the same two ways as the basic search.
